Four members of the Potters Bar Lifesaving Club, who regularly volunteer as lifeguards at major triathlons, this week became competitors themselves.
Alistair Strong, Robert Bays, Iain Maclean and Richard Pingram, all from Potters Bar, competed in the Mazda London Triathlon at the Excel Centre.
They swam 750m around the Royal Victoria Dock, cycled 20km around London’s Docklands before completing a 5km run, in just over one hour 30 minutes.
Carl Goulding, Head Lifeguard at the London Triathlon, and chief coach at the PBLC, said: “These lads put in a great performance in their first triathlon and, as qualified lifeguards, also made a valuable contribution to the safety of swimmers in other races during the event.”
