Finchley's Veteran Racers were out in force at the Nene Valley Race held on an undulating course near Towcester. Costas Pieredes and Edgar Medellin started the action with an early breakaway, which was chased down by the main bunch at the halfway mark. Finchley's Trevor Burke immediately reacted as the junction was made, joined by Medellin and two other riders, and this proved to be the winning move.
In the uphill finish Burke's legs just failed him, and he had to settle for second, with Medellin in fourth, after having worked hard to help Burke in the final miles.
Meanwhile, by placing three men in the first ten of the recent Crest Race, Finchley Racing now head the Essex Race League with a five-point advantage.
