There was heartbreak for Middlesex University hurdler Gianni Frankis in the final of the 60m hurdles as he was edged out by Edirin Okoro of Wolverhampton at the BUCS Championships in Sheffield.
Frankis was pipped to the line by Okoro who recorded a time of 7.97 seconds. The result marked a second consecutive year that Frankis has been edged into the silver position in the hurdles final.
Okoro, 21, from Birmingham, was understandably pleased with his performance, and said: “I feel really good. I’ve been trying to get focussed and in form and today it all came together. It’s a great track with a great atmosphere. He (Frankis) was next to me and I managed to put my foot down and get to the line.”
Frankis was disappointed with his performance, but remains optimistic for the year ahead, saying: “I wanted to win, of course, but this is late in the season so it’s hard to be at my peak. Later in the season the Commonwealth’s should hopefully be on the agenda.”
