Bees boss: We're not safe yet

10:10am Monday 22nd March 2010

BARNET boss Ian Hendon admitted his side were not yet safe from the dreaded League Two drop, but these three points at bottom-club Darlington certainly helped the cause.

Hendon said: "We are not out of the woods just yet and we are well aware of that. But if we can keep picking up points along the way, I'm sure we'll be fine. It's in our own hands. This goes a long way to where we want to be."

The Bees remain ten points clear of the drop zone, as second-from-bottom Grimsby Town also won.

Darlington, who parted company with manager Steve Staunton after the game, were already pretty much doomed before kick-off, though Hendon said his players displayed the perfect attitude.

"We didn't take them (Darlington) lightly. We did our homework and had them watched, and it paid off. It's difficult everywhere you go, whether it's Darlington or Accrington. All matches away are difficult games."

The Darlington pitch did not help matters, but Barnet adapted better to the quagmire conditions.

David Livermore volleyed the Bees ahead, before Albert Adomah found the top corner via an Albert Jarrett lay-off.

The Quakers made a game of it in the second half, boosted by a Gary Breen own goal, but the visitors held on to triumph.

Hendon said: "We played very well in the first half. We looked quite bright and it always looked like we would catch them on the break, which was the plan.

"In the second half, the pitch deteriorated and we didn't move the ball too well, but it was a matter of sticking in there and getting three points."

BARNET (4-3-3): Cole; Devera, Kamdjo, Breen, Lockwood; Hughes, M Hyde, Livermore; Adomah, O'Flynn (J Hyde 90), Jarrett (Gillet 73). Subs not used: Carpenter, O'Neill, Upson, Deverdics, Wright.

Attendance: 1,463.

Barnet host mid-table Burton Albion this Saturday, before a trip to Accrington Stanley on Tuesday.
