Lawrie Sanchez acknowledges Barnet need to start taking their chances if they are to stay up in League Two this season.

Against Cheltenham on Friday the Bees once again created several opportunities to take the lead before two late goals from the Robins condemned Sanchez’s men to another defeat.

It is becoming a familiar story for Barnet fans as, on numerous occasions in recent weeks, they have watched their side control games only to be beaten.

Sanchez confirmed after Friday’s defeat that the Bees are attempting a more direct style as they look to survive.

He said: “We are trying to be more direct in this latter part of the season because that’s what we need to be. It has got us plenty of goalscoring opportunities in the last few games. We have created chance after chance after chance.

“Like the Torquay game, you can create as many chaces as you want but if you don’t put them away it is wasted.

“I can talk all I want but at the end of the day we have lost the game and haven’t got any points from it.”

He continued: “We have lost too many games this season where we have played well and been equal and you would expect to come off with draw at worst.

“I have said to the players a draw against Cheltenham I would’ve been a bit disappointed with. At the end of the day we lose 2-0 and people just see the result and not the commitment and level of performance.”

A total of 173 Barnet fans travelled to Cheltenham on Good Friday and were in good voice throughout the match.

Sanchez commented the support was ‘fantastic’ and added he and players valued their efforts.

“The away fans, I have to say, have been first class and we do really appreciate them.

“I certainly appreciate them as do the players. Most of their singing throughout the Cheltenham game was the only signing you could hear right up to they scored the goal.”
