Finchley got the better of Stanmore in Middlesex County Cricket League Division One as the hosts coasted to an eight-wicket success.

Stanmore crucially lost the toss at Arden Field and were wisely inserted by the home side who restricted them to just 83 all out.

Opening pair Navin Samarakoon (27) and Steve Mehra (16) were joined by Tim Percival (22) as the only members of the Stanmore order to post double figures, as a collection of ducks saw them all out after 36 overs.

Four batsmen failed to register a score as the Finchley attack ripped through their visitors, with Jake Milton claiming the best figures of four for eight.

Majed Ali picked up two at the expense of just four runs, while Frahan Butt (two for 16), Imran Qayyum (one for 13) and Colin Myers (one for 38) also chipped in.

Finchley’s reply was not without its own blemish however, as Ali was dismissed without posting a score himself to give Stanmore hope of an unlikely success.

However, the removal of Steve Selwood (39) did not come until the hosts had racked up 79 runs, leaving Andrew Plummer (32 not out) and Milton (three not out) to see them over the line for victory.

Nicholas Goh (one for 19) and Darshan Malde (one for 22) were the wicket takers for Stanmore but their task always looked a difficult one after a disappointing display with the bat.

Saturday sees Finchley visit third placed Winchmore Hill while Stanmore will look to bounce back when they take on Ealing.
