Hendon to face Eastbourne Borough in FA cup

A convincing 3-0 victory against Lewes secured Hendon’s passage into the third qualifying round of the FA Cup where they will take on Blue Square Bet South side Eastbourne Borough.

Greens manager Gary McCann made several changes to his side and they nearly went ahead early on against Lewes as Greg Ngoyi missed the target from close range.

Aaron Wickham and Anthony Thomas both then came close for the Rooks before Dean Cracknell broke the deadlock for the home side.

A cross into the box wasn’t cleared and Cracknell fired home from the edge of the area to send Hendon in ahead at the break.

Six minutes after the restart McCann’s men doubled their advantage. Clever build up play allowed Ngoyi space in the box. He was tackled but the ball fell to Elliott Charles who slotted into the net from close range.

Hendon expected a reaction from the Rooks but Berkley Laurencin wasn’t really tested and he easily dealt with several shots from distance. In the final minute the Greens rounded off the victory. After a foul on the edge of the box, Michael Murray curled a fine free-kick into the top corner to secure Hendon’s passage into the next round.

Gary McCann’s side travel to Eastbourne Borough on October 6 as they look to progress to the next round.
