Cape Town snub 'a shame' says Barritt (From Times Series)

Brad Barritt says Edinburgh's rejection of Saracens' offer to play Heineken Cup match in Cape Town is 'a shame'

Brad Barritt says it's "a shame" that Edinburgh rejected Saracens' offer of playing their return Heineken Cup fixture in Cape Town, South Africa. 

Edinburgh released a statement on their website this morning insisting the arrangement would be an inconvenience for their fans and a disadvantage to the team.

But Barritt, who was born in Durban but now plays for England, believes the match would have been a great opportunity for all the players involved.

The 26-year-old said: "Edinburgh obviously have their reasons but as players we obviously thrive on playing in big arenas and in front of big support.

"I believe Cape Town would have been a sell-out so I think not to have had that opportunity is a shame.

"I think both teams would have enjoyed playing in a different environment and at a world-class venue and in such a great city like Cape Town but nevertheless, we get on with it and we look forward to welcoming them back to Vicarage Road."

Barritt is making his 100th appearance for the Men in Black at Murrayfield on Saturday.

Kick-off is at 1.35pm and the return fixture is scheduled for January 20.
