A volleyball club from Barnet is celebrating after reaching the last eight of a national competition.
VK Barnet Under-16 Girls have remained undefeated in the first and second rounds of the National Cup, a run which has seen them take the scalp of Chelmsford who finished sixth in the competition last year.
The girls will now compete in the penultimate stage of the competition in Kettering on February 26 in their bid to qualify for the final.
The core of the team come from Henrietta Barnett School, with the girls having been introduced to the sport by their PE teacher and the club’s men’s captain, Ales Rencin.
There was also success for one of the club’s junior boys.
Rob Poole was selected to represent England Cadets at an international tournament in Austria, where he helped his side to a second place finish.
VK Barnet play at Queen Elizabeth’s Sports Centre, High Barnet, and have been awarded Club Mark status through Volleyball England. For more information, visit www.vkbarnet.net.
