Finchley made a winning start to their Middlesex County Cricket Division One campaign after enjoying a three-wicket success at Southgate.
The visitors won the toss and wisely elected to bowl, dismissing their hosts for just 63 in the 42nd over, with only one of Southgate’s batsmen reaching double figures.
That honour fell to Oliver Rix (20 not out) but batting at number nine, his knock proved too little too late as the Finchley attack made light work of their task.
Colin Myers was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets at the expense of just one run, while Hassan Khan (four for ten), Imran Qayyum (one for 12) and Andrew Plummer (one for 21) also
contributed to the damage.
Finchley’s response was not spectacular but it was enough to see them over the line as they reached their target for the loss of seven wickets.
Opener Steve Selwood contributed 11 before he was bowled by Tuan Hadgie, but Plummer was the only other man to reach double figures, top scoring with 27 to lead the visitors to victory.
Finchley were unable to follow up their success on Sunday however, as they fell to a 16-run defeat at Harrow in the ECB National Club Championship.
The visitors won the toss and opted to bowl, with Harrow posting a score of 154 for seven for them to chase.
But the reply saw them fall short, dismissed for 138 after 38 overs to hand the hosts victory.
Saturday sees Finchley welcome Eastcote to Arden Field.
