Potters Bar beat Oxford in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division One

James Kettleborough’s unbeaten century helped inspire Potters Bar to their first win of the campaign in Home Counties Premier Cricket League Division One.

The opener posted 101 as Bar saw off the challenge of visitors Oxford with an impressive eight-wicket victory.

Having lost the toss, the home side were put into the field and made steady progress through the Oxford order, as wickets fell at regular intervals.

Christopher Sandbach’s 28 was the best the visitors could muster until some resistance in the lower order from Francois Vainker (44 not out) and Hendrik Van Dyk (35) saw them climb to 194 before they were dismissed.

Marc Milligan was the star of the Bar attack as he picked up five wickets at the expense of 63 runs.

Tim Phillips struck three times for the loss 65, while Salman Choudhry picked up one for 15.

In reply, the hosts looked in control as they reached 64 before Antony Keely (28) was dismissed but suffered a scare when Tanweer Sikandar (one) made a swift return to the pavilion.

However, the confident play of Kettleborough in partnership with Tim Phillips (66) eased them over the line with plenty to spare, giving Bar a comfortable victory.

Saturday sees Bar visit Banbury as they looked to build on their success.
