Barnet head coach Mark Robson admits there is a 'great buzz' among his players

Barnet head coach Mark Robson admits there is a ‘great buzz’ among the squad as the Bees prepare for Saturday’s pre-season clash at Burnham Ramblers.

The weekend fixture gives Robson a first opportunity to see observe his squad in a game situation and assess their match sharpness.

The last time Barnet fans watched their side in action, the Bees were battling to a 2-1 final day victory over Burton Albion - a result which kept them in the Football League.

Since then, Martin Allen has been replaced by Mark Robson. Players have left, including top scorer Izale McLeod, and new ones have been brought in. Much has changed.

"What happened in the past is in the past,” said the Bees Head Coach.

“We need to move on and there has been nothing but positivity among the squad." said the Bees Head Coach.

"I think everyone is looking ahead to the new season, there does seem to be a great buzz."

He continued: "The pre-season games are very important to us and match fitness is something that the players obviously need to get.

"The players work hard during the week so it is nice for them to have a game on the Saturday where they can get out there and express themselves."

The Bees have so far brought in Sam Cowler, Jordan Brown, Oliver Lee, Ahmed Abdulla and Freddie Warren. Jack Saville, whose contract had expired, has agreed a new deal.

The players returned to training on July 4 and Robson is pleased with the strong work ethic in the squad.

"It has been very good. We have had everyone back on the training pitch and everyone has trained very well.

"The players have taken well to the training. There has been lots of ball work which may have surprised a couple of the players – but they are still working hard.

"They have looked sharp and are taking on board everything. It has been a very enjoyable week.

"The work ethic among the squad has been great and the new guys have settled in well. There are young players here who will feel they have a point to prove, so I’m very pleased. "

He continued: "I have been very impressed with everybody, the whole group have been very good and there are one or two that have really impressed me."

Following Saturday’s game the Bees will then travel to St Albans and Boreham Wood, before their first match at Underhill on Thursday July 26.

Robson, who used to play for the Addicks, believes it will be good a test for his squad to face Championship opposition.

He said: "I am really looking forward to the match. It will be exciting for everybody and it will be good for the players to take on Charlton.

"Personally it will be a good game because I used to play for them but it will be good for the players to pit their wits against a Championship side."
