Saracens and England fly-half Owen Farrell has been named Aviva Premiership player of the month for January.

The 21-year-old fought off tough competition from fellow England internationals and Harlequins stars Danny Care and Mike Brown, as well as Leicester Tigers’ second row Louis Deacon and London Wasps' rising star Elliot Daly.

In the Men in Black's sole Premiership match in January, Farrell kicked six penalties and two conversions in a 32-12 victory over Sale Sharks.

Away from the league, Farrell’s deadly boot was also crucial as the youngster amassed a total of 68 points over three matches including Heineken Cup victories over Racing Metro and Edinburgh.

Throughout these games his versatility was shown by fitting in at both fly-half and centre, forming a formidable partnership with Charlie Hodgson in the process.

The clash against Edinburgh saw England's number ten end an impressive run of 26 successful consecutive kicks.

It has not just been with the boot where Farrell has shown his precision, setting up teammate Chris Ashton’s second try against Edinburgh, with a quick-thinking cross-field kick.

Farrell has since taken his good form on to the international stage, playing a central role in England’s Six Nations victories over Scotland and Ireland.
