Five Saracens were involved as England beat France 19-14 on Saturday in their first warm-up match ahead of next month's World Cup.

With head coach Stuart Lancaster having to still cut eight men from his current group of 39, none of Alex Goode, Owen Farrell, George Kruis, Richard Wigglesworth or Mako Vunipola did their claims any harm at all.

The Red Rose kick off their World Cup campaign against Fiji at Twickenham on Friday, September 18, with five members of the Wolf Pack all battling to be part of Lancaster's final 31 for the tournament, which must be selected by August 31.

A brace from Anthony Watson was added to by Jonny May as England battled against a stubborn French resistance to put together a display which showed flashes of the cohesion Lancaster will be looking for in little over a month's time.

Farrell kicked two conversions as he looks to win out in the battle to be England's starter at number ten. Goode also impressed with the chip pass which set May away for the hosts' third and final try of the evening.

Next Saturday England travel to the Stade de France for a return fixture as their preparations continue.
