England's 2015 Rugby World Cup campaign will come to an end win, lose or draw this weekend, but Jamie George insists the journey to Japan starts now.

Back-to-back defeats to Wales and Australia at Twickenham mean England have become the first host nation to exit a Rugby World Cup at the pool stages.

However, the Red Rose are not done yet as they face Uruguay on Saturday in Manchester with head coach Stuart Lancaster bring eight new faces into his starting XV.

Saracen George has had to make to with a spot on the bench but the matchday 23 could be a sign of things to come with exciting youngsters Henry Slade and Jack Nowell all set to finally taste the Rugby World Cup atmosphere.

And George admits the new faces have the responsibility to get the ball rolling as attention already turns to the 2019 tournament in Japan.

“The calibre of players we have at such a young age is great,” the hooker said.

“We might not have the amount of caps that New Zealand have as a collective but at the same time that is coming and I for one think it is hugely exciting about what this group can do.

“I think we can go a long way and we have got to react in the right way to the disappointment we have had in the last few weeks and then move on and get on with it and I think it can definitely swing in a positive way.

“Anyone that hasn’t played, we are feeling fresh and there is a lot of energy from the lads that weren’t involved last week.

“We are thinking this is a massive opportunity for us to show what we can do and put the disappointment of the last few weeks behind us and hopefully move on and put a really positive performance in.

“There is certainly an excitement within the group that it is a young team and we have some very exciting, young players in the group.

“I guess it is a case of looking ahead now. We can’t change what has gone but what we can do is put a good performance in this weekend and that will start the ball rolling and hopefully we can then move forward.”

Despite not tasting victory so far in this Rugby World Cup, Uruguay have shown glimpses of what they can do in defeats against Australia and Fiji.

And George is not about to let his teammates get carried away before a ball has even been kicked.

“We are itching at the bit to get involved and to have an impact on this team and the boys are dwelling on everything last week,” he added.

“We have a huge Test match ahead of us so as much as we will be bringing a lot of energy to the side, there is not too much that needs to be brought because we are playing for England at the end of the day and we are excited about that.

“First things first Uruguay are an improving team but what we are looking for is an exciting brand of rugby. At the same time we can’t just go out there and start throwing the ball around and forget what the basis of our game is and that is set-piece and defence.

“I think that will win us the game and hopefully we will then be able to show the attacking intent we have seen, and hopefully, put into practice after all the hard work we have put in over the last few weeks.”
