Saracens' Chris Ashton has been ruled out of England's Six Nations campaign after being handed a ten-week ban for making contact with the eyes of an Ulster player in the European Champions Cup.
The 28-year-old had been re-called to the Red Rose squad by new coach Eddie Jones 18 months after his last appearance for his country.
But he will now miss the entire tournament after making contact with the eye of Ulster's Luke Marshall in Saturday's 33-17 win at Allianz Park.
Ashton was handed a 12-week ban by the judicial officer ruling on the case with an extra week added, according to World Rugby's guidelines, as a deterrent.
However, the ban was then reduced by three weeks due to Ashton's good character and conduct.
England begin their Six Nations campaign against Scotland on February 6.
