Proposal to relocate Breakspeare School to Durrants School Former Playing Field site, Manor Green, Croxley Green,

Notice ID: WAT2349220

Notice effective from
4th March 2022 to 3rd April 2022

Hertfordshire County Council
Hertfordshire
Proposal on the relocation of Breakspeare School, Abbots Langley, WD5 OBU, to the Durrants School Former Playing Field site, Manor Green, Croxley Green, WD3 3LU and the permanent enlargement of the school from 97 to at least 200 places with effect from January 2024.

Notice is given in accordance with section 19(1) of the Education and Inspections Act 2006 that Hertfordshire County Council intends to make a prescribed alteration to Breakspeare School, Abbots Langley, a special school to relocate Breakspeare School, to the Durrants School Former Playing Field site, Manor Green, Croxley Green, WD3 3LU and to permanently enlarge the school from 97 to at least 200 places with effect from January 2024.
The proposal will support an increase in places available at Breakspeare School (the School), a community special school for children with severe learning difficulties (SLD), up to a maximum of 113 places. The current capacity of the School is 97 and with the proposed relocation and rebuild the capacity will increase to a maximum of 210 places.
The current school site does not have enough space to create the additional accommodation required to cater for an increase in capacity. Hertfordshire County Council (the county council) is therefore proposing to relocate the School to Croxley Green in new, purpose-built, accommodation which will fully meet the needs of both existing and new children.
New special school places are urgently required to meet the demand for children, aged 2yrs to 19yrs with severe learning difficulties. All existing SLD schools are full and there is no remaining expansion potential.
The county council is therefore proposing to relocate the School from its existing site in Abbots Langley to the former Durrants School playing field, Manor Way, Croxley Green, WD3 3LU (the Durrants site), a straight-line distance of 3.3 miles.
The county council plans that the new accommodation should be ready for occupation by January 2024. The School will continue to operate on its existing site, until this time.
Copies of the complete proposal can be obtained from: Hertfordshire County Council, Children's Services, School Planning, Room 145 (CH0134), County Hall, Pegs Lane, Hertford, SG13 8DF, marked for the attention of Relocation and Enlargement of Breakspeare School, or via the Hertfordshire County Council website at:
