The headteacher of a North Finchley primary school has spoken of her pride after its rating was upgraded to ‘good’ by Ofsted.

Inspectors rated Frith Manor Primary School, in Lullington Garth, as requiring improvement after a visit two years ago.

But after an inspection last month, the school, which has 690 pupils, was upgraded to ‘good’.

In its report, Ofsted praised the school for its leadership and quality of teaching.

Headteacher Leigh Carmichael said: “We are delighted at the outcome. The report reflects how far the school has come over the past two years.

“We put it down to sheer hard work and determination to reinstate a feeling of pride back in the school. It’s a brilliant feeling and will mean so much to our whole school community.”

Ms Carmichael, who has worked at the school for 15 years, said it was a “whole school effort.”

She said: “We have got the foundations, now our ultimate goal will be to move forward to hopefully be rated as outstanding in the future.

“Frith Manor is a fantastic school to work in. The community is such a diverse community and it’s a pleasure to wake up every day to come to school and engage with the pupils. The staff are brilliant.

“To fall down to ‘requires improvement’ was a crushing defeat. Nobody shied away from the task. Even in the face of adversity we kept going.

“We are going to build on from that. We can only climb higher.”
