As traders set up their stalls full of tasty treats at a new food market in Barnet, it was Boris Johnson who proved to be the big cheese – literally.
Barnet and Southgate students Charlie Neville, 20, and Alex Samson-Bunce, 18, marked the opening of Brent Cross Food Market by making a bust of Boris entirely out of cheese.
Made up of Dairylea, Cheddar, cheese slices and cheese strings for the hair, the bust proved popular with market-goers at Brent Cross Shopping Centre last Friday.
Charlie, a foundation art and design student, said: “When our teachers came up with the idea I just thought it would be a fun thing to be involved in.
“Boris was a good choice because he has so much character in his hair and his facial features.”
Fifty traders took over the area outside John Lewis in the centre’s car park where they will continue to run a market every Friday and Saturday throughout the year.
They will be offering delicacies from around the world as well as locally sourced meats, dairy products, vegetables and desserts. There will also be cooked food, from Caribbean dishes to spicy Spanish paella.
