A teacher was ‘blown away’ as children, parents and staff rallied to put on a Big Chocolate Tea Party in aid of a charity close to her heart.

Michelle Williams helped organise the party at Moss Hall Infant School in North Finchley, but was amazed when so many people turned out to help raise money for The Sick Children’s Trust last Friday.

The charity provided a place for Mrs Williams and her husband Lee with a place to stay when their son Matthew caught whooping cough last year.

He was treated at Great Ormond Street Hospital, but not knowing how Matthew would react to his treatment, it was reassuring for his parents to be close to him.

Mrs Williams said: “It was fantastic to be so near to him and not have to go home – going home just wouldn’t have felt right without him.

“The trust gave us loads of emotional support as well – they really saved us. I just wanted to organise this event as a way of saying thank you.”

Schoolchildren set to work baking a variety of chocolate cakes for the big day, when parents and staff were invited to join them at a tea party.

Mrs Williams said: “I was completely blown away by the response from everyone at the school. It was great to see how much support, kindness and generosity our school community has.”

The event raised a total of £780, but Mrs Williams is hoping to raise more via her Just Giving page. To make a donation visit www.justgiving.com/Michelle-Williams21/
