Dressed in their onesies and tied together with string, a youth group walked the length of the Northern Line to raise money for a community project.
The Finchley Reform Synagogue's Youth 4 Youth group set off from Morden shortly after 9.15am last Saturday before arriving tired but cheerful at High Barnet at 8pm.
Jonathan Clingman, a member of the group, said: “All the people who passed us were very curious and enthusiastic and comments ranged from sarcastic, 'Isn't it a bit early to be going to bed?' to more supportive. And we had 26 appreciative hoots from passing cars.
“Unsurprisingly the longest distance, it seemed, was between Totteridge & Whetstone and High Barnet, and it was raining as well. But we managed to hobble all the way there.”
Youth 4 Youth helps out with community development work in Polotsk, Belarus, and decided to complete the 23 miles to raise money for the cause.
Jonathan said: “For five years we have worked closely with the Jewish community there and we are currently trying to raise money to bring some young people over to London for youth leadership training.
“This is not only extremely beneficial for them but also it will help establish fun and useful youth programs there for the next generation, which is vital in what is quite a broken post-Soviet society.”
