Hertsmere Borough Council leader Morris Bright has won the seat on Hertfordshire County Council for Potters Bar and Shenley.

The incumbent Conservative councillor won 1134 of the public votes, with UKIP coming second with 549 votes, Labour with 379 and the Liberal Democrats with 160.

Cllr Bright, who will hold the seat for four more years, said: “This is a very good result and I am very grateful to be elected.

“This is a trying time for politics and to hold a reasonable majority and have the faith of local people is something I shall ensure I repay.”

He added he hopes to engage with the locals to make sure they feel confident to come out and vote on the issues which matter to them.

Now that he has been elected, Cllr Bright hopes to repair the potholes in the area as well as making sure there are more primary school places.

He added: “I am particularly keen to work on problems with grass verges which have been churned up by bad parking, and making some of the areas of the town look messy.

“We need to work together as a community to keep our towns looking green and clean.”
