Two runners braved sweltering heat to raise £500 for a Jewish care charity.

Beth Hallowell, 20, and Joel Barnett, 27, sprinted through the streets of London to raise money for care home charity Nightingale Hammerson, which runs Hammerson House in Bishops Avenue.

Mr Barnett chose to run in the British 10k after having worked in a care home in Leeds, and tranied by running 11km three times a week.

Miss Hallowell managed to balance her training in between revising for exams at Imperial College.

The physics student said she really enjoyed the run, despite the “tremendously hot weather.”

She added: “I felt a great sense of achievement, not only on a physical level but also the fact that I'd raised money for a good cause.”

Joel said: “Running 10k while battling the effects of the sun was exhausting, but I still managed to do it in a good time.

“It was a relief to get out of the sun.”

Mr Barnett and Miss Hallowell were part of a group of five runners who raised a total of £2,400 for Nightingale Hammerson.

The money raised will go towards the residential care at the charity’s two care homes.
