People with mental health problems and those who care for them will be running, cycling and walking more than 1,000 miles for charity.

Independent mental health care provider Partnerships in Care, which is based in Imperial Place in Maxwell Road, Borehamwood, is throwing itself into Sport Relief next week.

Earlier this year, the organisation launched a Healthy Mind, Healthy Body initiative to encourage both staff and patients to take care of their physical health.

It hopes to raise more than £2,500 and is supporting patients to set themselves goals in relation to quitting smoking, exercising, eating healthily or losing weight.

Over the Sport Relief week staff and patients across England, Scotland and Wales will be engaging in run, walks and cycles, culminating in a bike ride from Borehamwood to Royston next Friday.

Other fundraising activities will include cake baking, dress-down days and other sponsored events.

Joy Chamberlain, Partnerships in Care’s chief executive, said: “The physical health of our patients and staff is important; all businesses need to support and encourage their workforce to get fit – the benefits are widely known. This initiative helps give both patients and staff the opportunity to consider their health in an informal and fun way.”
