Neighbours have raised concerns over the safety of a bus route after an eight-year-old boy was knocked down on his bike.
The eight-year-old is currently fighting for his life after he was hit by a 184 bus in Chesterfield Road, Barnet, at 8.15pm yesterday.
Witnesses who live in the area heard a “loud noise” but were stunned after they heard a young boy had been involved.
Mother-of-two Tracy said: “I heard the impact from inside. I looked out the window and saw a bus. I thought it was two vehicles colliding.
“I didn’t realise it was a little boy. There were loads of people and paramedics gathered around.”
Others say the situation highlights the lack of safety measures on the street, which is heavily used by buses.
The driver of the bus stopped at the scene and has not been arrested.
Karen Marchant, who has lived in Chesterfield Road for 26 years, said: “We have had a lot of issues with buses.
“They don’t need to be constantly coming up and down, it’s not a good environment for children.
“I’m surprised there hasn’t been a bus accident before this.”
Her neighbour, Michael Ward, said he arrived home at midnight to find the police had cordoned off the area. They stayed on the scene until 2am.
Any witnesses are asked to call 020 8991 9555.
