The jaw-dropping backdrop of Stoke Park, coupled with an equally dazzling Katherine Jenkins, made her birthday concert a night to remember.

Known as one of classical music’s most popular artists, Katherine performed a range of popular hits which filled the summer air at this outdoor concert, which was held on Sunday.

The non-classical fans among us were reassured as favourites such as ‘O sole mio’ (i.e. the ice cream advert) and Pie Jesu were part of her varied repertoire.

At one point the crowd got involved with a very loud and patriotic rendition of the Dame Vera Lynn classic ‘We’ll Meet Again’, which felt very British in the grounds of the magnificent Stoke Park.

The songs were so catchy and sing-along that I had to keep telling my mum to ‘shush’ when all I could hear was her humming in my ear.

Katherine is also an interesting performer to watch as she worked the stage, putting me in mind of a Disney heroine in her colourful ball gowns. During the half time break, you could hear groups of ladies discussing the perfect Katherine, and her beautiful array of clothes that she changed throughout the show.

Indeed, she won over the crowd with her Welsh lilt and giggles, and at one point showed off her latest accessory to gasps from the crowd – a very sparkly (and large) diamond engagement ring.

Although Katherine has only just turned 34, she has already released nine studio albums, selling in excess of 7,000,000 copies and gone platinum around the world.

But it wasn’t only Katherine that stole the show.

She also brought in Celeste, a very talented girl group made up of former cathedral choristers.

And the acts on the night were accompanied by the incredible National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Anthony Inglis.

With a glass of Pimm’s in hand, and the sun making a welcome appearance after a weekend of rain, it made for a very special occasion.
