A builder from Mill Hill narrowly missed out on winning The Great British Bake Off last night.
Richard Burr, 38, was the favourite going into the final round of the BBC show, after winning the star baker award five times during the series.
However, he lost out to Nancy Birtwhistle, a 60-year-old grandmother from Lincolnshire.
The finalists were challenged by judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood to bake Viennoiserie – breakfast pastries – before making an array of mini Victoria sponge cakes, scones and tarte au citron.
They then had to make a “pièce montée” as their final showstopper, a towering concoction consisting of sponge, choux pastry, sugar work and petits-fours.
Millions of people tuned in to the fifth series of the show, which switched from BBC Two to BBC One.
