A man who volunteers as a carer for the disabled has been recognised for his work in the community.
Ronnie Vaughan, who lives in Golders Green, is estate agent Ellis & Co’s community champion for 2014.
The prize is given to people who donate their time to people in the area.
Mr Vaughan, 84, has lived in the area for more than 30 years and has worked as a volunteer for 26 years.
He said: “I love every minute of living in Golders Green. I love the diversity, the tourists that visit in the summer, the community feel. It’s like no other village in London.
“It has a real gentleness about it.”
Mr Vaughan has now been awarded a bottle of champagne and a £200 donation to the charity of his choice – the Barnet Centre for Independent Living.
He added: “The woman I care for is now 49 years of age and she goes to the Barnet Centre for Independent Living four times a week to do various things. It’s been a god’s send for her, so I would like to donate the money to that charity.”
