Seventeen-year-old Jordan Amadi-Myers, from Mill Hill, is following in the footsteps of his musical heroes Tinie Tempah, Emeli Sandé, JLS, and Jessie J by being nominated for a MOBO award.

Jordan, stage name J Vessel, who is currently studying A-levels at Mill Hill County High School, found out about his nomination for Best Gospel Act after judges were impressed by the young rapper’s positive and inspirational music. If successful, he will be the youngest performer ever to win a MOBO award in this category.

Jordan started writing, producing and recording his music at the age of 14. His last video, which has received more than 6,000 views on YouTube, was shot at his school and featured school friends and local teens.

Being so young and nominated for a MOBO award has come as a big surprise to Jordan. “To hear that I was nominated was a huge shock and if I’m honest, I don’t think it’s sunk in yet!

“I also hope that young people will be inspired to be bold and begin their work and not be afraid of critics or people telling them ‘they’re too young’. You had a purpose before anyone had an opinion!“

His school is supporting the #VoteJVessel campaign and Jordan is hoping that local residents will also support him as if he wins he will have a greater platform to share his positive and inspirational brand of rap/urban music.
