People came together to raise thousands of pounds for veterans at a winter fair.

Former BBC war correspondent and Independent MP Martin Bell opened the fair at the Free Church Hall, in Northway, Hampstead Garden Suburb, on Saturday.

More than 300 people attended, and helped raise more than £4,000 for Combat Stress, a mental health charity for service men and women.

A wide range of stalls were on offer, including crafts and jewellery, cakes, Christmas cards and more.

The day was organised by the Combat Stress Winter Fair Committee, which has raised money for the charity for the last six years.

Marjorie Harris, who lives in Erskine Hill, helped organise the fair. She said: “It went extremely well, we were very lucky the weather was so beautiful. The atmosphere had a real buzz. We were lucky with the raffle prizes. We had a lot of punters, and the food and drink went down a storm.

“Combat Stress’s work is just as important today as it was when it was founded in 1919. They have amazing programmes. It’s amazingly important.“
