Councillor Lisa Rutter met with residents of Brunswick Park ward at her surgery on Saturday, March 7 to discuss the proposal to base Barnet Borough Council waste disposal unit at Abbots Depot site in Oakleigh Road South. The current site of the waste disposal unit is in Mill Hill and has been sold off to be vacated by December 2016.

At this meeting, Cllr Rutter was asked why she abstained on the vote for this proposal to go ahead. In her own words she stated: “I abstained because I was told by the (Tory) whip to do so.”

Furthermore, Cllr Rutter said: “I can’t understand why you (the residents present) can’t accept the option of having ‘clean traffic’ from Barnet’s waste disposal vehicles and let Barnet Council buy out Winters” (one of the current skip firms on the site). She forgot to mention the other operators who will still be there along with the waste unit.

Cllr Rutter was asked if she would like to live close to the proposed waste disposal site and she did not reply, so obviously she’s dubious.

So is Cllr Rutter genuinely representing local residents or not on this issue? It seems not.
