Campaigners marched through Barnet calling for the libraries to be saved.
The Save Barnet Libraries group organised the march from Edgware to Mill Hill, via Burnt Oak, on Saturday to highlight their opposition to Barnet Borough Council’s planned £2.85m cuts to the service.
Under the proposals laid out, libraries could be closed, reduced in size or staffed by volunteers.
Polly Napper, from East Finchley Library Users Group, said: “It was really jolly and we had a good turnout. We are hoping to build up to a really decent number. A lot of people said they supported us.
“We are doing the marches to keep it on the agenda. All we can do is keep making the case.”
A report on the future of the borough’s libraries is due to go the children’s, libraries and safeguarding committee in the summer.
Further marches have been planned on:
- Saturday, April 11 11am: Hendon Library to Childs Hill via Golders Green
- Saturday, April 2511am: Chipping Barnet Library to Osidge via East Barnet
- Saturday, May 9 11am: South Friern to North Finchley via East Finchley
