A football club is inviting former players to attend a ‘grand reunion’.

East Barnet Old Grammarians Football Club, now in its 66th year, is inviting people who played for the team from 1947 to 1980 to the event this Sunday.

More than 100 former players aged from 50 to 90 are expected to attend, including original founder Dave Allen, 90, and Vern Leonard, who is travelling back from Australia for the reunion.

Roy Bertauche, who has played for the club for 50 years, said: “We needed to do this before we all got too old. We’ve only just about managed to find enough players fit enough to play the exhibition match where the average age will be about 65. There’ll be no need for slow motion replays.”

The reunion will take place at the clubhouse in Alan Drive, off Mays Lane, Barnet, this Sunday at 12.30pm.

A ‘Vintage Vets’ game will take place at 2.30pm.
