A farm is spreading the word about the importance of local farming and buying locally-produced food and drinks.
Belmont Children’s Farm, in The Ridgeway, Mill Hill, took Maple the dairy cow and a flock of sheep to meet the public in London British Farming Day.
The farm is privately owned and has 20 volunteers and wanted to promote the jobs within the agriculture sector – from general animal work to farm work.
Children and adults were educated about the countryside, farming and where their food comes from, whilst being able to get up close with the animals.
Scott Ruck, who works at the farm, said: “It has become more and more prevalent to the public that farmers in the UK are struggling to make a sustainable living.
“We want to see more commitment from the government and the public towards British produce from British farmers with some of the highest standards of welfare in the world, so they can have a sustainable future, acknowledging the importance of ‘grass root’ entrants to the industry from all backgrounds.”
