GREEN-FINGERED schoolchildren have been awarded prizes for their gardening efforts.

Home grown vegetables, herbs and flowers were put on proud display by pupils at The Barnet Schools Young Gardeners Awards 2015 last Thursday (October 8).

Held at Sunnyfields Primary School in Hendon, members of Hendon Horticultural Society and Philip Colman of Finchley Nurseries judged the entries, and Barnet mayor Councillor Mark Shooter awarded the prizes.

Debbie Barber, school secretary at Sunnyfields, said: “They were hugely impressed with the amazing diversity of the gardens that they saw.

“Not only was the produce grown of a very high standard but each group was environmentally aware and made use of a huge array of natural and recyclable resources.”

The best school trophy prize went to Trent CE School, Woodcroft School won the most enthusiastic children Rosie Connolly cup, and Hollickwood School won the best display at presentation.
