A primary school celebrated its first birthday by opening a new nursery.

Millbrook Park Church of England School, in School House Lane, Mill Hill, was officially opened by Cllr Val Duschinsky on November 26.

Headteacher Anthony David said: “It was a low key, but lovely event. We had a party in the morning with the children eating their home made rock cakes in the beautiful autumn sunshine.

“We are very proud of our new nursery. The facilities both inside and outside are top of the range.”

The nursery, which cost £10,000, can accommodate a total of 72 three and a half to four and a half-year olds, with 26 pupils in the morning and 26 in the evening.

Although morning classes are full, there are still spaces for nursery children in the afternoon. The upper part of the school was opened this time last year to provide schooling for the 2,200 new homes built as part of the Inglis Consortium housing estate.

The nursery includes a stage facility where Mr David says the children can “sing Frozen songs to their hearts content”.

Applications for parents wanting to send their children to Millbrook are open until January 15.
