A £30m project to redevelop two leisure centres in Barnet has been given the green light.
Church Farm Leisure Centre, in Burlington Rise, East Barnet, and Copthall Leisure Centre, in Champions Way, Hendon will be knocked down and rebuilt under the plans by Barnet Council.
The policy and resources committee approved the scheme last night (December 16).
Church Farm will be moved to Victoria Recreation Ground in New Barnet, and will include two swimming pools, a café, fitness centre and studio space.
Copthall will remain in Champions Way, and will have three pools, along with a café, fitness centre and studio space.
The plans for the redevelopment, which is estimated to cost £30m, will go out for further public consultation in the spring next year.
Councillor Helena Hart, chairman of the health and wellbeing board, said: “We want to give our residents every opportunity to lead a healthier lifestyle and the new Victoria Recreation Ground leisure centre, together with the improved Copthall facility, will certainly do that.
“Everyone knows the council needs to save money, but this is a case where we can invest to save at the same time as creating top class new facilities for Barnet’s residents.”
