WARNINGS have been raised bus routes in Barnet and Hertfordshire face the chop.

Hertfordshire County Council is considering slashing £390,000 of bus funding this year, on top of the £1.5m cuts made in 2015.

The routes which could be hit are the 142 from Watford to Brent Cross, the 292 from Borehamwood to Colindale, the 298 from Potters Bar to Arnos Grove, the 107 from Edgware to New Barnet, and the 258 from Watford Junction to South Harrow.

The council pays the money to Transport for London (TfL) to support services in and out of Hertfordshire.

Hundreds of people have signed petitions, launched by Watford Liberal Democrats and Watford Labour, opposing any closures.

A council spokesman said: “The three-year agreement between the county council and Transport for London (TfL) to provide bus links between Hertfordshire and Greater London expires at the end of the financial year.

"The council currently subsidises five TfL-operated routes at a cost of £390,000 a year.

“We are currently in discussions with TfL about how we can ensure these important bus links continue after April 2016.”
