Neighbourhood police teams worked together and found a knife blade during a weapons sweep in Edgware.
Officers from Colindale and Burnt Oak NPT, received reports that parts of the park are being used by young people to hide knives to avoid being caught in possession of a knife.
The NPT team, the British Transport Police, and the dog support unit, searched Watling Park in Pavilion Way, yesterday afternoon (Sep 6).
A knife was found hidden in the undergrowth, with the blade hidden in the ground to ensure it is camouflaged.
This sweep was the latest search in response to the recent Metropolitan Police campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of carrying a knife.
In a statement from the NPT, it read: “The initiative was also undertaken to reassure local residents that their local Police are listening to their concerns and undertaking such initiatives to make the area a safer place to live and work.”
If you are worried about someone who carries a knife, and want to speak to someone about it anonymously, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
