A parade celebrating Burnt Oak’s diverse cultural makeup is set to hit the streets again.
The Burnt Oak Multicultural Parade and Festival will be held in Silkstream Park from 11am to 5pm next Saturday (September 17).
The parade will be 400 strong this year, featuring a marching band, local schools in fancy dress and national costume, and people from Nepalese, Chinese, Somali, Venezuelan, and Filipino communities as well an Italian mini car parade.
Founded by Altogether Better Burnt Oak, the parade will begin at Edgware Community Hospital at 11am, walking down the A5 and Watling Avenue to Silkstream Park where a full festival will be held.
Celebrations at the park will include rides and bouncy castles, face painting, storytelling, stage entertainment from Nutmeg Community and various schools and international communities.
There will be stalls featuring jewellery, crafts, toys, health and wellbeing information stands, and a variety of international foods.
Local residents and businesses on the high road are encouraged to join in on the day by dressing up and lining the streets or joining the parade.
The project is supported by Barnet Council, NHS Barnet Clinical Commissioning Group and Barnet Older People’s Association and sponsored by Barnet & Southgate College.
