Theresa Villiers has committed to standing again as the MP for Chipping Barnet.

MP for Chipping Barnet Theresa Villiers has announced she will stand again for the Conservative parliamentary seat in the constituency she has represented for 12 years.

A vote took place at Barnet's Conservative Association on Sunday, who decided to readopt her as the candidate for June 8.

Ms Villiers said: “I am deeply honoured to have been reselected to stand as the Conservative candidate for Chipping Barnet for a fourth time.

She added: “It has been my priority to reach out to every part of our diverse multi-faith, multi-ethnic community here in Barnet so I can highlight their concerns in Parliament on the local, national and international questions they raise with me.”

Ms Villiers also spoke of the “strong and stable government” that the Conservative party can provide, calling an alternative option “a coalition of chaos made up of a floundering Jeremy Corbyn” with support from SNP or the Liberal Democrats.

Conservative party member and High Barnet resident Valerie Whittaker said: “She is local, she has a proven track record and stands up for residents. The people of Barnet could not wish for a harder worker."

Ms Villiers said she has championed issues such as protecting the green belt, supporting businesses and NHS services, as well as fighting for faster broadband across the borough.
