Last orders may be called for Watford’s only brewery as the land it stands on may be sold.

Pope’s Yard which is located in the Wemco building in Whippendell Road may shut down if the planning permission is granted to turn the site into flats.

The brewers at Pope’s Yard have started looking for a new premises in Watford, but as yet have found nothing suitable and may be forced into looking outside the area.

They are appealing for people to contact them if about any spaces that would be suitable to rent.

The 23rd Watford Beer Festival may be the last time that the beer is available to customers.

The annual event will take place at West Herts Sports Club in Park Avenue, Watford, from Thursday, November 2 until Saturday, November 4.

There will also be beer from the Sarratt-based brewery Paradigm and more than 80 other beers on offer for festival-goers as well as a range of ciders, perries and a mead.

Throughout the festival there will be table top pub games and a nightly raffle, and on Saturday evening there will be a pub quiz with the chance of winning the opportunity to be a brewer for a day at Paradigm Brewery.
