An MP joined a cancer charity for their annual lights switch-on and carol singing.

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, joined Cherry Lodge Cancer Care supporters and staff for their annual Lights of Love ceremony, where they switch-on the lights at the Bandstand in High Barnet and sing carols.

Around 50 people braved the cold along with Ms Villiers, with many reading out poems before the group held a minute's silence for those who died or received help from Cherry Lodge throughout the year.

Ms Villiers said "This is always a moving occasion when many families remember loved ones they have lost. It is also an important opportunity to show support for the wonderful work done by Cherry Lodge for people coping with cancer."

"I try to help Cherry Lodge when I can. It is always an honour for me to be asked to switch on their festive lights. I very much hope the charity can look forward to another successful year providing much valued services to my constituents."
