A new parking scheme has been causing trouble amongst motorists looking for parking spaces.

The Spires Car Park, High Barnet, has installed a new charging scheme using automatic number plate recognition to clock customers in and out.

Residents have taken to social media to complain about the machines. and the new scheme.

One person wrote: “The woman behind me had her last pound swallowed up.

"She now has my number as a witness that she paid, because they have installed number plate recognition cameras to clock you in and out.”

Robert Ward, 51, from High Barnet, parked there on March 3 and was fined £100 despite paying for a ticket.

He said: “Around 8:30am my wife and I decided to go went to the gym.

“We and a few other people were there and the machines weren’t working and covered in black bags.

“We spoke to the attendant, he said he could take money and that would be fine, so I paid two pounds, I had fulfilled my obligation. to park in The Spires.

“Then we left after about an hour and didn’t think about it, until I got a penalty notice for a fine of a £100.”

Mr Ward hassince appealed. his fineof a £100 An NCP spokesperson said: “Since the introduction of our new payment machines at this car park there have been a couple of technical issues following the installation.

“While many customers are using the car park with no problems, we do not want any customer to feel they have been unfairly charged despite paying for their parking. They must appeal directly to us.

“We have 5 machines on the car park and all are working correctly after the initial teething problems, and we apologise sincerely to any customer who has been affected.”
