An actor raised around £5,000 for sufferers of motor neurone disease and their families when she appeared at a screening of her latest film.

Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again star Lily James helped raise £5,000 at the showing of the film at the Phoenix Cinema in High Road, East Finchley, in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association's North London Branch.

In the new film – a prequel to the first film - Lily plays a younger Donna Sheridan, the character played by Meryl Streep in the original.

Tina di Fruscia, a fundraiser for the charity, said: “Lily was there for four hours and she did not disappoint, she was so kind, patient and generous with her time for every single person that attended.

“The event was a huge success and raised approximately £5,000.

“The North London Branch would like to say a special thank you to Universal Studios for allowing this to happen and to Lily for making it a beautiful and successful morning.”
