A teenager who suggested free table tennis in a park took on the Mayor over one of the tables.

Matthew Lee, 13, got in touch with the Mayor after playing on the free tables in the intu centre earlier this year to suggested similar tables be installed in Cassiobury Park for the summer.

The Mayor took up his request and the tables were installed outside the tennis courts last week.

Matthew said: "I played on the table tennis tables in the intu centre and really enjoyed them. I thought it would be a really good idea for them to be in Cassiobury Park as well so I emailed the Mayor. I wasn’t expecting a response but they got in touch straight away for it to be looked into. I’m impressed how quickly the tables have been put up.’

"I’ll definitely be using them a lot over the summer."

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “I was really pleased that Matthew got in touch with this suggestion. It was a good idea and I’m delighted that we now have these table tennis tables in Cassiobury Park.

“I hope residents make good use of the great facility over the summer holidays.”
