Students from an independent Jewish school scored an impressive streak of grades in their GCSE results today.

More than half of the students at Immanuel College in Elstree Road, Bushey, received an A* and a total of 78 per cent of students received an A* to A.

Under the new numbering grade which is being implemented in English and maths among other subjects, a total of 85 per cent of students scored between 5 to 9 which is equivalent to B and A*.

Headmaster Gary Griffin said: "These results are hugely impressive.

“I am very proud of the students and their teachers who have worked so hard, and so effectively, to produce these outstanding GCSE grades.

“Whilst I appreciate it is difficult for those trying to make sense of a combination of letters and numbers, I can assure everyone that these are superb results which reflect extremely well on the pupils and staff at Immanuel.

“I would like to send my sincere congratulations to all involved."

According to grading regulations, the new numbering system will be replacing the GCSE’s letter grades such as A, B or C in 2019.

The new grade band ranges from 9 to 1; 9 to 8 being an A*, 7 to 6 an A, 5 is a B and 4 is a C.

At Immanuel College, a total of 15 per cent of students received 9, and a total of 36 per cent received 9 or 8.
