A family-owned business that has been running for more than 60 years will not shut down under plans touted for new flats.
Dory’s Café, on Bruce Road, is to remain open regardless of whether the proposals for the flats gain approval from the council’s planning committee.
The owners have had a number of enquiries from local people who feared it was going to close down.
The neighbouring shop, which is currently unoccupied, is not part of the planning application.
Under the proposals, the space above Dory’s would be converted into flats, along with some of the ground floor space.
Each of the nine flats – with floorspace of around 11sq m – would include a bedroom and bathroom, while the occupants would share two kitchens.
The developer, Mornworth Ltd, does not plan to include parking spaces, claiming “there is generous town centre parking in close proximity”.
People are able to comment on the plans before they are considered by the council’s planning committee.
