The MP for Watford says he is “resigned” to losing areas he currently represents after proposals to boundary changes were published.

Final recommendations for new parliamentary boundaries were put forward by the independent Boundary Commission. As part of the proposals, Abbots Langley, Woodside, and Leavesden would move into St Albans.

The Lib Dems in Watford campaigned to keep Woodside a part of Watford, a call which is echoed by Watford Labour.

There were calls for Watford’s MP Richard Harrington to vote against the proposals, which is pushed through could see the number of MP’s reduced to 600 from 650.

In response to the calls, Mr Harrington said: “The boundary review is taking place to reduce the cost of politics and equalise the size of constituencies so that everyone's vote has equal weight, which is only fair.

“There has been extensive consultation and I’ve fed back at every opportunity, and encouraged others to do the same. I do not want to lose any of the areas which I currently represent, but sadly, I have resigned myself to the fact that I will.

“It has been an honour and a pleasure to represent the people of Watford in parliament, and I will continue to do that to the best of my ability, whether I’m representing Leavesden, Woodside and Abbots Langley, or South Oxhey.”
