A newly-reopened library continued its celebrations with a family fun day to showcase the kind of events it will host in the future.

North Harrow Community Library, which reopened its doors earlier this month after three years in the wilderness, welcomed more than 600 people to the event on September 22.

It secured more than 300 memberships, including that of Harrow West MP Gareth Thomas, while visitors enjoyed several activities including games and storytelling sessions.

The library, in Pinner Road, was closed in 2015 due to council cuts but a longstanding campaign by volunteers has finally seen it re-established.

Cllr Janet Mote, who represents Headstone North, has been a longstanding supporter of the bid to bring the library back.

She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that after three years that North Harrow Community Library will open.

“It will not just be a library, but also a community hub. I’m so pleased that so many volunteers came forward because it wouldn’t exist without them.

“There have been so many ups and downs, so we are delighted to finally see it up and running.”

The library will have an official opening with the mayor of Harrow on November 19 and Cllr Mote has urged as many people as possible to attend.

Kamal Shah, chairman of the library’s trustees, explained that it will open every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 10am to 3pm.

He added that it hopes to extend its opening times and has called for more volunteers and financial donations to help maintain the running costs.
